Will you receive alimony after divorce?

It doesn't matter if you call it alimony or spousal support, you need to know if you are entitled to this type of payment after divorce. After all, you don't want to miss out on money that is due to you.

It is important to note that not every former spouse is entitled to alimony. This is only awarded when one partner is unable to meet his or her financial obligations without the assistance of the other spouse who can afford to pay the expenses.

There are times when alimony is temporary, such as when a former spouse needs enough time to complete a degree program or reenter the work force. There are other times, however, when one spouse pays the other on a more permanent basis. This depends on a variety of factors, including a spouse's age, health and if he or she has a disability that could hold him or her back from earning money.

There is no sure-fire way to determine if you will receive alimony after divorce. Instead, this is something that is decided on a case-by-case basis by the court. Of course, you have the right to fight for this if you feel that it is something you should receive after the divorce is final.

Some people pay alimony. Some people receive alimony. Then there are those who go through a divorce and split without this ever turning into a talking point.

If you have questions regarding alimony, don't hesitate to learn more. You need to know if this is a possibility as you inch through the divorce process.
