Danica Patrick is known as the most successful woman driver in IndyCar history and current NASCAR driver, model and advertising spokesperson. Married for seven years to a physical therapist whom she met after a 2002 hip injury, Patrick recently announced that she has filed for divorce.
In her divorce papers, Patrick states that their marriage is irretrievably broken, and that there is no hope of a reconciliation. She has an estimated net worth of $18 million.
This recent divorce filing may not come as a surprise to Illinois readers because Patrick informed her fans on her Facebook page that a divorce would be imminent. There she says the couple is on amicable terms, and that they intend to remain friends after the divorce.
The couple did enter into a prenuptial agreement which stipulates that neither party is to receive alimony pursuant to a divorce. The couple also has no children, so child support and child custody are not issues in this high-asset divorce.
With substantial marital assets likely accumulated by this high-net worth couple during the past seven years, those assets will be the subject of a property division pursuant to a divorce. Patrick says that their marital property will be divided under the terms of the prenuptial agreement.
Patrick’s husband has yet to respond to his wife’s divorce filing so it is possible that he may dispute the validity of the prenuptial agreement. If not, then the complexity of this divorce will come down to dividing the marital assets in accordance with that agreement.
