Reasons why divorce mediation is often the best answer

As one of our Illinois readers faced with the divorce process, you know there are many challenges standing in your way. This is particularly true if you have a child with the person you are divorcing.

Once both parties decide that divorce is the answer, it is time to move forward. However, this is easier said than done. With both parties responsible for the cost of divorce, it is important to take the right steps along the way. This often means mediation, as opposed to a court hearing.

Here are some of the many reasons why you should avoid a court hearing if at all possible:

-- It is expensive. You don't want to spend any more than you have to on the divorce process.

-- It is time consuming. Like most, you are probably interested in putting divorce behind you once and for all.

-- Lack of control. With a judge making final decisions, both parties may begin to feel that they no longer have the ability to do what is right for them and their family.

-- Tensions rise. The more time two people spend in court the better chance there is that tension and stress will begin to increase, often leading to arguments that could have been avoided.

With divorce mediation, it is possible to avoid some or all of the problems detailed above. If you want to leave the court process to somebody else, learn more about mediation. You can get started by reviewing our webpage entitled "Mediation & Collaborative Law." The information you gather could put your mind at ease.
