There is nothing simple about a child custody case. If you are dealing with this at the same time as a divorce, you realize that it can take a lot of time and money to clear the air.
There are many reasons why a growing number of couples are opting for child custody mediation, as opposed to a date in court.
A mediator is not staffed with the responsibility of fixing your marriage. This person is not there to take sides. Also, the mediator is not in position to impose a solution. That being said, many people still find this to be better than heading to court. Here is why:
— The process is less intimidating for both parties, which can increase the chance of a friendly discussion that leads to a mutually beneficial result.
— The mediator is skilled and experienced at helping people in your position.
— Mediation can lead to a solution in a more time efficient manner. Often, mediation comes to an end after a few days or a weeks. This is not the case with family law court, with child custody cases often dragging on for many months or years.
— Less expensive than court. In most cases, both parties are interested in saving money.
These are a few of the many advantages when comparing child custody mediation to the court process. If both parties agree to sit down with a mediator, there is a good possibility that a solution will be reached sooner rather than later. If nothing else, it is an idea to consider.
