Non-payment of child support a problem in Illinois

On Behalf of | Nov 2, 2015 | Child Support

There are times when one parent is required by law to pay child support. Every state, Illinois included, has a law in place to ensure the proper payment at the right time.

To start, the court will decide how much child support is to be paid. This is based on Illinois Child Support Guidelines. But just because the court orders one party to pay does not mean this will happen.

According to the Illinois Child Support Services website, non-payment of child support remains an issue in the state. In fact, this has become such a big problem that it is considered the primary reason why approximately 500,000 children in the state receive public assistance.

The Illinois Child Support Services program is in place to bring together all enforcement partners in an attempt to lessen this issue. These partners include the Illinois Supreme Court, the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, the Circuit Courts, Circuit Court Clerks, State’s Attorneys and the Illinois Attorney General.

The Illinois Child Support Services also touches on another alarming statistic: Nationally, 58 percent of single parent households have a court order to receive child support. However, only half actually receive the support that is due.

Our attorneys are experienced and knowledgeable regarding Illinois child support laws. We know what it takes to help people with a court order receive the support they deserve.
