If you are faced with divorce, you know that the next few months (or longer) could be very difficult on you.

Your goal is to move through the process in a fast and efficient manner, ensuring that you make all the right decisions and avoid the mistakes that have plagued those before you.

No two divorces are the same, so you don’t want to base your decisions on what others have done. Instead, you need to review your situation in great detail and make choices based on what you think is best for you.

Here are four divorce types to consider:

— Litigated divorce. This is most common, with many people referring to it as a “traditional” divorce. With this, your and your former spouse fight it out in court until all the details of the divorce are final.

— Collaborative divorce. Have you and your ex agreed to work out a divorce settlement without the need of a court? If so, you are taking part in a collaborative divorce.

— Divorce mediation. If you want to avoid the court system while having a say in the divorce process, mediation is right for you. With the help of a mediator, you can work through all your problems without legal action.

— Do it yourself divorce. This is an option, however, it is one that most people never consider. There are too many details of divorce to attempt to figure this out on your own.

If divorce is on the horizon, learn more about your many options to ensure that you make the right decisions at the right time.
