Have you answered these child support questions?

On Behalf of | Feb 4, 2016 | Child Support

Do you owe child support? Are you supposed to receive a child support payment from your former spouse every month? If you find yourself dealing with either side of this arrangement, it is important to know your rights as well as what is expected of you.

As long as both parties stick with the court order, nothing should go wrong. Of course, this doesn’t mean you will never have questions. Here are some of the most important to answer:

— What happens if a person refuses to pay child support to a former spouse?

— If a former spouse moves out of state, do they still have to pay child support?

— What are the steps you can take if your ex-spouse falls behind on payments?

— Is it possible to have a child support agreement modified?

— How are child support payments calculated?

— Is there anything that can affect child support obligations?

If you are lucky, you will never have to answer these child support questions. Instead, both you and your former partner will take the right steps at the right time. Conversely, if you run into any trouble, it may be time to answer these questions, along with many others.

Nobody dreams of the day when they have to make or receive child support payments, but this is a situation with which many people must cope. If for any reason things are not going your way, it is a good idea to learn more about your legal rights and what the court expects from both you and your former partner.
