Divorce and its impact on the holiday season

Illinois parents who have gotten divorced may eventually come to dislike the holiday season. This may be true whether the divorce occurred during the holiday season or if it occurred at some other time of the year. However, it is important to understand that the holidays are about being there for the children. Those who can’t be with their children during the holiday season should make arrangements to spend it with friends or family members.

This may ensure that Christmas or other important days aren’t spent alone, which may only exacerbate any hurt feelings a person may have. It is also important to remember that the kids deserve to spend time with both parents if it is safe to do so. Even if the former spouse deserves a comeuppance, it should not come at the expense of a child.

While it may not be possible to spend time with the children on Christmas day or other specific holidays, it may be possible to create new traditions. When done properly, parents can still create happy memories with their children no matter when that time is shared together. Being flexible about spending time with a child may make it easier for a parent to cope with having less access to that child. It may also allow the child to enjoy the magic of the holiday season.

The end of a marriage may be a painful experience regardless of when it takes place. However, having the assistance an attorney may make it easier to learn more about the process and how to possibly obtain a favorable outcome.
