Jealousy and insecurity can lead to divorce

You have probably heard that infidelity is one of the top reasons for divorce in the United States, and that's true. Cheating in a relationship is more common than many people realize, and, for many people, it's a complete deal-breaker if they find out their spouse wasn't faithful. It's not something they'll even try to work through.

That said, it's important to note that simple feelings of jealousy and insecurity can also lead to a divorce, even if the cheating that the other person is worried about never happens.

For instance, a jealous spouse may demand that the other person never goes out alone with their friends. Even though that person has been faithful to the marriage, the other spouse thinks they may take an opportunity to cheat and wants to go everywhere with them to prevent it.

This is a sign of serious insecurity, and it is not normal behavior. It makes that faithful spouse feel like their husband or wife does not trust them. It takes away their personal freedom. It makes them feel controlled. It makes them feel like they're constantly being punished for something that they did not even do to begin with.

People will only put up with that type of behavior for so long. Eventually, they'll decide that they need a better quality of life and they'll file for divorce, even if everything else in the marriage is technically going well.

If you find yourself in this position and you are considering divorce, make sure you know what steps to take to get the process started.
